About Connie Jacobs-Walton

As an HR professional, Connie Jacobs-Walton has learned the importance of listening. In truth, many essential forms of communication often get overlooked or underappreciated. Connie’s job is to ensure that these critical perspectives are not overlooked in the workplace. Thankfully, she loves to do this, as she believes one should not follow a career in HR if they aren’t willing to listen and help. Likewise, one must be willing to grow and learn. For this reason, Connie Jacobs-Walton is a member of several Professional HR Affiliations, including The National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Society for Human Resources National (SHRM), and more.

Over the years, Connie Jacobs-Walton has held several HR positions. One of her first roles was as a Human Resources Manager for Donnelly Communications, Inc. She worked with them for several years before moving on to the CH2M Hill OMI, an engineering company providing consulting, designing, and construction services. Connie helped to overhaul their HR department before following the next opportunity handed to her – a role as Human Resources Manager with the City of Milton. When Connie signed on with the City of Milton, they had only recently incorporated as a local government. They needed guidance on developing and implementing a health plan, not to mention help with their retirement plans. They were fully up and running when Connie Jacobs-Walton left for her next role with the City of Decatur. Here she stepped up to be a Human Resources Director, enabling her to lead and shape her own HR team for the first time. Her time with the City of Decatur gave her the knowledge and lessons necessary to succeed in her current role.

Connie Jacobs-Walton works for Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library, where she is their Human Resources Director. As someone who loves academia, this is the perfect role for Connie. Likewise, Connie’s presence has been good for the library, as she fights for better treatment, policies, and positions for everyone. Her efforts made a significant impact during the height of the pandemic as she crafted new COVID-19 policies and testing procedures. Other changes Connie has made include streamlining the HR process (onboarding, benefits, etc.), redesigning employee benefits, improving employee retention, and conducting compensation studies. The latter helped provide Connie with a better understanding of the industry and alignment of employee pay and offerings.

Connie Jacobs-Walton’s experience in the world of Human Resources has opened the door to many unique opportunities. For example, she was given a chance to be a Panel speaker at the 2018 International City/County Management Association-Retirement Corporation (ICMA-RC) Conference in Baltimore, Maryland. Her panel was on “Turning Your Fear into Heroism,” which focused on employee surveys and following up on results from these informative findings.

When not busy at work, Connie Jacobs-Walton loves spending time with her family. She has been happily married for eight years (and counting). Alongside her husband, Connie enjoys celebrating the holidays and other special occasions with her extended family.
